Mitzi Mitsunaga, President

Mitzi has been a member since 1993. She currently serves as President for Renaissance Unity’s Board of Trustees.  She has volunteered her services in other areas, Finance Committee, Planned Giving, Community Outreach, Prison Ministry, Prayer Partners, Nominating Committee, and chairperson for the Human Resources Committee.  Formerly employed as a Court Executive for Wayne County Third Circuit Court, Family Division, she was responsible for overseeing a large department of professional staff that provided intensive probation and prevention services, as well as individual and family treatment and psychological testing.   Mitzi has a Masters degree in Business Administration and 30 plus years, of professional diversified experience in administration and delivery of services in the human service field. 

Dr. Terry Gordon, Vice President

Terry has been attending the church since 2002 and became a member in January 2006. Dr. Gordon has practiced medicine in the Metro Detroit area for over 25 years and also holds the position of Associate Medical Director of UOP, a physician association. He has been a member on several corporate leadership boards and has over 25 years of management experience in finance, human resources development, marketing and personal health management. Terry currently serves as Vice-President of the Board of Trustees, is chairperson of the Scholarship Committee and a member of the Revenue Team. He also served as a member of the Ministerial Search and Selection Committees and co-chair for Renaissance Unity’s Capital Campaign.

Simon Messina, Treasurer

Simon has been attending Renaissance Unity since 2000 and has been a member since 2002. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees.  His other volunteer activities at the church have included serving as an usher, an usher team leader and as committee chair and/or member for various committees, such as Marketing, Revenue and Finance.  Simon is married to Gospel Truth member Kim Lange and has two teenaged children.  He has 25 plus years of extensive management background with full P & L responsibility, primarily in the transportation industry. He is currently employed as an Operations Manager for an international transportation company.

David Coulter, Secretary

David has been attending Renaissance Unity since 2003 and has been a member since 2004.  He is a volunteer on the Congregant Welcome Team and is a former member of the Nominating Committee, the Mission & Vision Committee and the Core Values subcommittee.  He was selected to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees in May of 2010.  Dave is currently the Mayor of the city of Ferndale and served for eight years prior to that as an Oakland County Commissioner.  His professional background is in public relations, communications and marketing and he has been using those skills to help develop a marketing plan for the Board to expand the awareness of our spiritual community.

Ted Brassfield

Ted has been a member of Renaissance Unity and an active volunteer for nine years.  His areas of service include: Treasurer of the Board of Trustees, Chair for Revenue Team and member of the Vision Team. He regularly teaches classes at Renaissance Unity.  He left corporate America after 30 years of experience with AT&T that included successfully negotiating and managing million dollar projects.  Ted also has specialized training and a background in personal coaching. He is the author of two books.

Barb Myers

Barb has attended Renaissance Unity since 1989 and has been a member for over ten years. She has served on the Board of Trustees since 2004 and is the chairperson of the Community Outreach Committee.  She volunteers as a Prayer Partner, Telephone Prayer Partner and has been a member of the Congregational Development and the Ministerial Search and Selection Committees.  Barbara is a retired Library Director with strong business skills and community service interests.

Laura Mackiewicz

Laura has been a member of Renaissance Unity for over a decade.  She first served the church in Youth Ministry and now serves as a Prayer Chaplin, Congregant Welcome Team Leader and member of the Board of Trustees. Laura is Director of Operations for a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of childhood obesity through nutrition and yoga lessons.  She is responsible for budget management, program development and volunteer coordination.  Prior to entering the non-profit world, Laura worked as an Event Producer for automotive clients, responsible for budget creation and reconciliation, supplier relations and production schedules.   Laura has studied with Edwene Gaines and is a Master Prosperity Teacher.  She is also a Certified Healer Practitioner and Reiki Master.

Nancy Rodda

Nancy has been a member of Renaissance Unity for more than 32 years.  Raised in Unity, she served as the Youth of Unity Sponsor for 17 years, which included conducting mid-week support groups for teens for over seven years.  She currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees. Nancy has experience in sales and sales management, elementary school education and has practiced in both the public and private sector as a psychotherapist. Her current focus is The Work of Byron Katie.  She is currently the Sr.  Director of   Clinical Services for Genesee CMH, responsible for overseeing a large professional staff that provides intensive therapeutic and support services for adults and children with mental health needs and/or developmental disabilities.

Angela Griffin

Angela has been a member of the church since 2006. She is currently a member of the Renaissance Unity Board of Trustees and the Congregant Welcome Committee. She has also served as co-facilitator for the 4T Prosperity Program and in Youth Ministry. Angela believes the church helped her to find her spiritual voice and enjoys sharing her skills and talents with the church and its members. She has a Master’s Degree in Training and Development and has worked as a Training Specialist for the automotive and I.T. industry.

Rodney Nolan

Rodney is a native Detroiter, married and the father of one son.  He has been attending Renaissance Unity since 2005 and has been a member since 2007. Rodney has worked as a Financial Advisor for twelve years and prides himself on providing sound financial strategies for his clients. Prior to entering the Financial Services industry, he was a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff for ten years. Rodney’s belief in God has led him to want to practice the spiritual principle of tithing his time, talent and treasure.  He currently serves as an usher, is a member of the Endowment Committee and is committed to the financial well-being of the church. Rodney seeks to serve his church community and to bring value to everyone he meets.

John Richardson

John is a husband and father and has attended Renaissance Unity for fifteen years, becoming a member in 2005.  He has served in the Media Department and Youth Ministry. John has 26 years of experience in Sales and Marketing for a major corporation. As a Board member, John would like to see Renaissance Unity continue to grow as a leading church in the Unity movement, but also to find within its walls an identity as a small Unity church celebrating a sense of family and belonging.
