Rainbow
Unity Pride Month Potluck & Survey Creation Meeting taking place
tonight, Thursday, June 28, 2007, 7:30 - 9:00 pm in Fellowship
Hall.
Bring some food (cook or stop by
the deli or chicken shack etc. make it easy for yourself) to share and
don't stress if you cannot for some reason. Rainbow will provide plates,
plastic ware, napkins, water.
If you are going to attend, let
us know by email to
rainbow@renaissanceunity.org if possible - this is not
essential and is purely for planning purposes.
After almost nine years of
meeting using the same format it feels like it is time to take stock of
what we about and to reset our intention and focus. We have had some
discussions in the group over the last year about altering our meeting
format and frequency as well as shifting our focus.
Some of the questions we have
been asking ourselves lately are:
How can we attract more active
participation?
What social & service opportunities are of
interest to the group?
What would best serve the GLBTQ Community
that is currently part of Renaissance Unity?
Within this open and celebrating church,
what is the role of a GLBTQ group?
How can we serve the larger GLBTQ
community in SE Michigan?
What activities would compliment the
existing offerings (at Affirmations, Triangle, other churches)
in the larger SE Michigan GLBTQ community?
How can we partner with the other GLBTQ
groups in metro Detroit?
How can we better serve the sub-groups
(i.e. singles, couples, young adults, families, seniors,
transpeople, etc. ) within our community?
How do we identify and train additional
group facilitators & social activity organizers and
thereby spread the workload?
Should we shift our meetings to once a
month, perhaps on Saturday or have a discussion meeting once a
month and a social activity once a month?
Tonight we will create a survey
that will be sent to everyone on our email list, currently almost 400,
in order to get the widest participation in shaping the future of our
group the maximum input. After the survey is tabulated we will share the
information gleaned and meet to form a consensus about the next phase of
Rainbow Unity.
Even if you cannot attend this
evening, you will have an opportunity to complete the survey and have a
voice in reshaping Rainbow Unity.
